PostSubject: 2nd Qualifying Final: Geelong v Hawthorn   Tue Sep 06, 2011 12:53 pm

WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Friday 9th September, 7:45pm.
HEAD TO HEAD: Geelong 79 wins, Hawthorn 67 wins, one draw
LAST TIME: Geelong 13.10 (88) d Hawthorn 13.5 (83), round 12, 2011 at the MCG
FORM: Geelong: WWBLW Hawthorn: WWWWW

One of the most intense rivalries in the game will be rekindled at the MCG on Friday night when Geelong and Hawthorn square off.

The teams had contrasting round 24 victories but enter the finals full of momentum.

Geelong handed reigning premiers Collingwood a 96-point hammering and in the process got plenty of players in pristine form, while Hawthorn made it eight straight wins with a tight nine-point triumph over Gold Coast.

The Hawks rested eight players including Lance Franklin, Cyril Rioli and Luke Hodge and got some game time back into Sam Mitchell against the Suns.

Since Hawthorn won the 2008 Grand Final, the Cats won their past six encounters and have made no secret of their dislike of losing to the Hawks.

Geelong won their two matches earlier this season by 19 and five points respectively.

Can the Hawks snap their losing streak against Geelong? Since the 2008 premiership triumph, Hawthorn has been close every time but fallen short on each occasion. They have a near full bill of health and need a big scalp to give their premiership credentials some validity.

Will the young Cats stand up under finals pressure? Chris Scott has introduced a lot of new blood this season to complement his seasoned campaigners. The likes of Daniel Menzel, Allen Christensen and Mitch Duncan will find out what finals footy is all about on Friday night and whether they can stand the heat.

Geelong by 12 points
